Tennessee Health Insurance Exchange Overview:
Tennessee’s health exchange is a federally run marketplace. According to an announcement made in December 2012 by the state Governor, Tennessee would not develop its own health insurance exchange. The federal government will take the responsibility for running a health insurance exchange in Tennessee. A state can choose to operate its exchange or it can let federal government operate one for it. Starting from January 2014, under Affordable Care Act (ACA), health insurance coverage will be available for individuals and small businesses through health insurance exchange/marketplaces. Plan enrollments are to begin from October 1, 2013.
There are three kinds of exchange operation models which are mandated by ObamaCare. These are described here in health exchange by state post.
Tennessee Individuals and Small businesses can purchase Tennessee Qualified Health Plans (QHP) from the insurance exchange. There are ObamaCare Tennessee health plan subsidies available for individuals making less than 400% of federal poverty level. ObamaCare Tennessee Small Employer Tax Credits is available for small businesses.
